3M are proud to present 3M Thinsulate Climate Control Series
3M Thinsulate window film has been developed to tackle the ever demanding environmental controls placed on existing building stock.
Key Benefits of 3M Thinsulate Window Film - Climate Control Series:
Why use 3M Thinsulate Window Film?
3M Thinsulate window film has a very low reflective appearance making it ideal for installation to properties where the appearance cannot be changed or where installing secondary glazing is not an option.
How does 3M Thinsulate Window Film Climate Control Series Work?
3M Thinsulate works by reflecting radiated heat (long wave infrared radiation) such as the heat emitted from your body, radiators and other warm objects back into the room, rather than it passing through the glass to the outside where it is wasted.
3M Thinsulate allows the building user to retrofit a Low Emissive (Low-E) coating onto existing glass, without changing the appearance of the glass.
In order to understand how 3M Thinsulate works, you will need to understand:
What is Emissivity?
Emissivity is defined as "a materials ability to radiate energy."
Highly reflective materials have a low emissivity value.
Dark coloured materials have a high emissivity value.
In terms of windows we are looking for - the lower the emissivity of the glass the better, as the glass cannot radiate valuable energy from inside our homes through the glass to the outside. As a result the glass has insulating properties.
What is Low-E glass?
In order to understand Low-E glass it is helpful to understand that the energy from the sun is made up of 3 parts:
The suns energy reaches the earth in the form of shortwave radiation, but as the suns energy hits the ground it is converted to longwave radiation. The warm ground heats up the air and causes it to rise forming our weather.
Low-E coatings are designed to take advantage of this and act as a "One Way System" in the sense that they have been specifically designed to reject solar shortwave radiation passing through the window (UV and Infrared) so providing heat rejection in the summer time, while allowing the visible light to pass through. Again, the same as a One Way System, the Low-E coating prevents the longwave radiation emitted from warm objects within the room passing back through the glass to the outside.
3M™ have window treatments that will cover every issue that is associated with glass and glazing and have a wide range of combination films that incorporate both security and solar control properties. When choosing 3M™ not only are you buying quality but you are buying piece of mind from the most comprehensive warranty in the industry.
3M's™ range of Ultra window films has a patented multilayer construction which allows them to resist tearing more than conventional security films of the same thickness. In addition to the multilayer construction, 3M™ make use of their expert knowledge of acrylic adhesive systems which allow the film to "Grab" onto the glass like no other film.
Ultra 600 has been assessed to the United States General Services Administration Rating Criteria (GSA-TS01-2003) and has achieved a rating of 2, which equates to 'Minimal Hazard/Very High Protection' on a double glazed pane of glass with a Wet Glaze Attachment System.
Protect your Business
For more information please visit our blast protection page. As a result the 3M™ Ultra range of window films provide a level of protection against Terrorist Attacks, Hurricanes, Industrial Explosions and Forced Entry like no other window film on the market today.
The 3M™ Ultra Series are designed for use on the interior surface of windows. They are composed of alternating stacks of transparent and weather stable polyester film, scratch resistant surface and a strong acrylic adhesive. The high tensile strength and elongation at break properties, plus market leading tear strength (Graves tear), significantly increases resistance of the glazing to impact. The superior adhesive also results in market leading fragment retention. Additionally the films also significantly reduce the transmission of UVA and UVB rays, which are the main cause of fading.
The 3M™ Prestige range of window films include - 3M™ Prestige 70 Internal and External, 3M™ Prestige 40 External and 3M™ Prestige 90 External.
The 3M™ Prestige internal window film range uses a multi-layer and metal free film based on nanotechnology. It has a uniquely high visual light transmission for a film that has exceptionally high heat rejection capabilities. The film also reduces glare and blocks almost the entire amount of UVA and UVB rays which are the main cause of fading and skin damage. The patented multi layer construction and manufacturing process ensures an even longer warranty and life expectancy compared to other exterior film technologies.
With 3M™ Window Film Prestige Exterior Series, you have the only non-metallized spectrally selective Infra Red (IR) reflecting window exterior window film. The Prestige Exterior Series window films has a UV durable hard-coat, enabling the product to stand up to the harsh outdoor environment. This film is also the only exterior film that you do not have to edge seal for all vertical glass. With the Prestige Exterior Series, you get all of the same benefits as the interior version plus, significantly more energy rejection especially on double pane glass, easier access to skylight glass, and you can install film on glass that you may not have been able to install interior film on. The Prestige Exterior Series window film is truly unique in the industry.
The 3M™ Night Vision Range of window films are unique, as they offer vision through the glass during the night time. A typical metallized film becomes a highly reflective mirror when its dark outside and the lights are on inside making it difficult to see out. The carbon impregnated polyester layer of the 3M™ Night Vision Film provides the same heat rejection performance as a highly reflective film, while the appearance of the film at night is a subtle light bronze effect.
3M™ have a wide range of solar control window films that offer varying performance and aesthetic finishes to satisfy nearly all requirements. 3M™ Sun Control Films have a metallized coat which allows the film to reject the sun's heat before it enters the building, reduce glare and UV damage. The metallized coat also provides one way vision privacy, the amount of which is dependent on how dark the tint is. For example: the 3M™ R20SIARL (silver 20) offers more privacy than the darker RE50NIARL (Nickel 50).
3M™ Anti Graffiti window film is an optically clear polyester based film applied to panes of glass that are vulnerable to graffiti attack, such as train windows. Since the completely clear 3M™ Anti Graffiti window film effectively mimics the surface of glass, the vandal is unaware that when they scratch the glass, they are in reality scratching the film which can be easily removed and replaced leaving the glass untouched. This is a very effective way of protecting the glass and can be applied in minutes so costly shut downs are avoided.
