#APontheJob recently finished a renovation project at the new neonatal unit at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen. This work was part of a £25.2 million renovation, including a new Specialist Care Baby Unit.
After having already applied privacy film to the lower half of the windows in the family area of the hospital, we were asked if we could provide a solution to give added privacy to the families using these rooms. Blackout roller blinds had already been installed on the windows, but they blocked out all light and views to the outside. We proposed new vertical blinds which offered privacy – that could be controlled through the tilt of the vanes – without compromising natural light and views.
As well as installing these Yewdale Vertical VL31 blinds, our team previously worked with staff on design elements, such as colour schemes and artwork for the walls, to create a calm and welcoming environment for families. Uplifting aesthetics and privacy were two essential criteria for these rooms, as many families need to stay overnight with their babies who are being cared for in the unit.
